Commentary
A Jalgrinn is a Horror Construct created by a famous Horror named the Jugun-Léachter (sperethiel:DeathJester) who was killed by the great elven heroess Alainda Mo'Takwa during the last scourge, while it tried to "smile" its way past the guards and wards of the Kaér. Jalgrinns stand approximately human sized, ranging from 5'6'' to over 7', with the average Jalgrinn standing 6 feet in height, with a broad, muscular, humanoid torso. Their skin color ranges from black over a muddy-brown to blood-red, but the most striking feature of a Jalgrinn is definitely its enormous mouth, set with dozens of sharp teeth and always twisted into the parody of a smile. In Combat Jalgrinn's show great talent and will use any kind of combat option available to the players. (Treat them as if having a melee weapons rank of 4 for purpose of giving ground) A Jalgrinn will usually attack with its claws tearing deep gaps into the characters (or at least trying to do so) and trying to score a wound on a PC. As soon as a all PC's have been wounded in this fashion or the fight seems bad, the Jalgrinn will withdraw and wait. Jalgrinn's Smile, is a rather cruel disease since it transforms the afflicted character into a Jalgrinn himself. But, let's start at the beginning, when the character takes a wound, the Jalgrinn makes a Spellcasting test against the characters Toughness Step and if successful, makes a Jalgrinn's Smile test. Note the result this is the target number for any attempt to cure the disease, with magical healing. The disease itself is fueled by the use of magic and will usually "contaminate" one talent of the character, usually the one most often used. (e.g. Melee Weapons for a warrior, Spellcasting for a wizard) When this talent is used note the result and each time the result would represent an excellent or better success against the characters own toughness step one aspect of the Jalgrinn breaks through and the characters toughness step is reduced by one. First there will be an ever present smile in the characters face, then his fingernails will lengthen and develop into claws, then his eyes will grow black with yellow pupils followed by severe body and coloration changes. When the characters toughness step reaches zero he is a newborn Jalgrinn and even before that time he will tend to be extremely aggressive and will have to be forced to be healed from the disease. |
